Our Story
A community built to carry Crete forward
Cretans Omonoia of Orange County was founded in 1987 as a chapter of the Pancretan Association of America. As the Cretan population in Orange County and the surrounding areas continued to grow, a group of dedicated Cretan friends recognized the need for a local organization that would unite the community and preserve their shared heritage.
Their vision was to create a space where the rich culture and traditions of Crete could be celebrated in their new homeland, honoring their roots while ensuring future generations would understand, appreciate and carry forward the customs, values and history of their ancestral island.
Central to that vision was the dream of a cultural center where Cretans and their descendants could gather for educational, recreational and social activities: a hub for music, dance, language and community fellowship.

A Gathering Place
“Saint John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Anaheim became the heart of many of these gatherings: a welcoming home where the Cretan community could come together, and it proudly continues to serve as that hub today.”
